Aeroplane Deformation Measurement

With industrial development, industrial products have become more refined and complex, resulting in increased necessity for manufacturers to come up with a robust method of measurement to check whether or not the products have been produced correctly to meet customers’ needs. As a result, significant attention has been drawn to industrial photogrammetry to satisfy such needs without contacting the target object. In the aviation industry specifically, attempts are being made to apply industrial photogrammetry as a new technology to improve the existing method of measurement in the actual maintenance of aero plane. Because core technical details such as design drawings of the aero plane have been classified as confidential, they have not been revealed by the manufacturers to countries and companies concerned. Therefore, they cannot be used in the maintenance of aero plane. In the case of a breakdown of the aero plane, the method to measure the distance between check points of the aero plane is used to look for any failure in the aero plane, instead of using the aero plane’s design drawings. This study presents the application of industrial photogrammetry to ensure accurate and rapid acquisition of data as required in advanced precision industries such as the aero plane maintenance. For this case study, the 3-D coordinates of the check points of the O-2A aero plane was measured to check the alignment condition of the aero plane by using the V-Stars photogrammetric system. The industrial photogrammetry system and the quantitative analysis regarding the deformation of the aero plane body was analysed by using the Pro-Spot software system in order to provide promptly the data necessary for the maintenance and failure analysis of the aero plane. In this study, the experiment has demonstrated the applicability of industrial photogrammetry to aero plane maintenance.
